New Delhi, India and Japan in a joint statement on Saturday after the 2 + 2 committee condemned the growing threat of terrorism. Both countries considered the ongoing terror network from Pakistan as a threat to regional security and asked them to take strict action against such organizations. 

Ministers of both countries emphasized strong international partnerships to combat terrorism and violent extremism, including sharing of information and intelligence.

Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono discussed several key issues, including the Indo-Pacific region, with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. 

Parties of both countries agreed to control groups that spread terrorism in any other country in all areas under their control. At the same time, he agreed to not allow his land to be used for terror.

Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday as part of the 2 + 2 talks. 

The Prime Minister said after the meeting that India-Japan relations are the main keys to peace, prosperity and stability in the Indian Ocean. India's relationship with Japan is important for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Apart from this, it is also important for India's Act East Policy.

Japan is the third country to join 2 + 2 with India

India has so far been involved in 2 + 2 negotiations with two countries. The US and India attend 2 + 2 meetings at the ministerial level, while 2 + 2 talks are held with Australia at the officer level. 

All these countries are increasing their cooperation with India in response to China's expansionary One Belt, One Road (OBOR). It is believed that the India-Japan summit will be a major step in this direction.

2 + 2 talks with the US in December


The 2 + 2 level talks between India and the US are scheduled on December 18 in Washington. It is also expected to discuss the autonomy of the Indo-Pacific region. 

India has many times voiced concern over China's growing activities in the Indo-Pacific region. Due to this, the US changed the name of Pacific Command to Hind-Pacific Command last year to increase India's interference in the region. Both countries are engaged in strengthening defence relations and trade in the region.
